Canter Magazine horse-themed fiction and poetry

Are you an aspiring writer of horse-themed fiction and poetry? Canter Magazine wants to see your work! We're seeking fiction writers and poets for our new bi-annual journal of fiction and poetry.

All writers (published and unpublished) are encouraged to submit their stories and poems. Mainstream/contemporary styles are preferred, though we will also consider historical pieces. All submissions must be horse-related. Stories should be no longer than 5,000 words; poems no more than 1/2 of one typed page.

Payment for accepted contributions will be made with two (2) contributor copies and a small monetary compensation: $5 for poetry; $10 for short fiction; $20 for longer fiction (3,500 words or more). Payment is on publication. We take first North American serial rights only; after publication you are free to submit your work elsewhere. We will also accept previously published work, as long as the author still owns the copyright.

Submissions mailed to the above address will not be returned or responded to unless accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE).

We will also consider B/W art for publication in this journal (payment is a flat $10). Mail submissions to the above address with SASE, or send a low resolution scan to files@cantermagazine.com.
